Retirement, Part V: David’s VA visit
Did I mention that I was reliving my youth? Well, not only am I unemployed and driving a convertible VW, I’ve taken up recreational drinking; something I should have done in my youth, but didn’t bother. Now that I’m making it more ritual than special occasion, I’m not sure why I waited so long. What fun! Take an average, mediocre evening, add friends and a bottle of wine, and you have instant memories. OK, sometimes I may take it a bit too far, but you only live once, right? If a headache the next day is the only price to pay for several days of a permanent grin, that’s a bargain!
August 16-19
David Smart came to visit for a few days, specifically to attend a Styx/Foreigner/Def Leopard concert with me at the Nissan Pavilion. The whole event took us back 20 years to 1987 when I’d just started driving, and David was helping me with my history. Only this time, I drove a cooler car, didn’t have any accidents, and lived history like Bill and Ted. A day was spent nursing our hangovers after the concert (and its after party…). In addition, we visited Manassas (where some crazy rain caught us) and Leesburg for some Civil War lessons.
