Retirement, Part IV: Mom's VA visit

Thursday, July 26
I returned from Spain about 6 hours after my mom and Ken had arrived to the East Coast. While the flight was 2 hours late, it worked our nicely to have no wait getting through immigration and customs. I went home and straight out to my Aunt Mari’s to pick them up. The next day was a DC day, going to the Air & Space Museum and spending time in Arlington Cemetery. They went to Hershey, PA with my Aunt Julia for the weekend, and that gave me enough time to catch up on laundry, get my car fixed, and get my bills paid.

Monday, July 30
Once they returned, we spent some time in Manassas to relive the Battle of Bull Run. My mom bought me a portable navigation system for my birthday. I can follow a map well, but there’s something to be said for having alternate routes, seeing an exit/entrance in advance, and knowing where the closest gas station is when travelling. It came with the US and Canada installed, so I’m looking forward to my New England road trip!

Wednesday, August 1
To finish their East Coast tour, before continuing their journey to Germany, we took an overnight trip to visit Uncle Phil and Aunt Phyllis. They’re great! They showed took us to Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg and fed us well. They have a spare room, and I’m thinking it may have my name on it soon. :-)
